14 Oct What are you doing with your pumpkin this year?
Hello friends, followers, and readers! What are you doing with your pumpkin this year?
Surely, you’re making a jack-o-lantern…but what else?
There is more to do with your pumpkin than carving it then throwing it in the trash. I’m here to ask you to consider doing almost anything EXCEPT just throwing it in the trash!
1.3 BILLION pounds of pumpkins waste away in landfills in the USA each year. This many pumpkins rotting in a landfill only adds to our huge methane gas problem!
Let’s do something new. Here are some things you can do instead:
🎃 Compost it! The nutrients will help the soil you’re creating.
🎃 Throw it in the yard. Let nature take its course right at home. It will likely be decomposed by the new year.
🎃 Use just about every part of the pumpkin in recipes: for pie or bread, for snacking seeds, for vegetable stock, and even an at-home pumpkin spice latte.
Pumpkins are way more useful and deserve more than being carved up and tossed in your trashcan. Please join me this fall by going the extra mile and diminishing the number of pumpkins sent off to the landfill.
