June 5th 2021 – World Environment Day

This past Saturday was World Environment Day. Since 1974, every year on June 5th World Environment Day has been celebrated. This day focuses on engaging governments, businesses, and citizens in an effort to address pressing environmental issues. This year, the host was Pakistan. 

 

Scientists say that the next 10 years will be key to halt the destruction and restoring our ecosystems. In response to this, during the World Environment Day event in Islamabad, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan showcased the Country’s Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project. This project aims to plant 10 billion trees by 2023. 

 

UNEP released the report “ Becoming #GenerationRestoration: Ecosystem Restoration for People, Nature and Climate” as a call to action for people to help prevent, halt, and reverse the degradation of ecosystems worldwide.
