Happy 4^th of July! Today, we celebrate our nation’s independence from Great Britain in the year 1776. People all across the United States of America celebrate this holiday in many ways—usually with family and friends, sharing food, and enjoying a parade or fireworks!

Here’s an activity idea for you: make a mosaic American flag!

Materials needed: paper, magazine or other paper scraps, scissors (optional) and glue.

Procedure: Flip through the old magazines and find splashes of red, white, or blue! Cut or tear the desired color out of the magazine. When you have enough of each color, arrange the pieces into the American flag design, and glue them there. Once your mosaic flag is dry, hang it in a window to display your pride and your work!

Remember to recycle any unused parts of the magazine, or save it in your craft area for future uses.

No matter what you do today, do your best to recycle where you can, reduce plastic usage, and reuse materials where possible.
